  • My ex-girlfriend always makes comments about how I'm not out to my dad (he's pretty much the last to know), and it angers me so much cause her parents are two women. Like she has no right to tell me just to do it already, cause she has no idea.

  • good for you. don't let that dummy make you feel bad. it is a sensitive topic because as you say, not everyone is privileged and had an easy time or easy reaction from their family.

  • @yesmamyes that's understandable......it took me a while to come out to my parents. I don't really know if i was completely ready or not but i was far away from home and by myself and during a harsh break up so i needed to get it off me badly. I don't regret it, but at the same time i wish i would have came out right now, when i'm sure i wouldn;t have had to make the "deal" of not telling it to my brother.......but someday....when he's ready he'll know.....if he hasn't figured it out yet lol

  • @yesmamyes Yep, I can see what you are saying there, because of the sensitive nature of the "It gets better" campaign, it is in its own interest we retain a positive spin. In some cases though, as members of the Gay and trans community, we need to step in, in place of extremely bigoted family members. In those extreme cases, coming out (to biological family) may be a much longer process (unfortunately) and we should support the person involved whatever their decision may be.

  • As you said, "Everyone's process is valid" - AMEN! That's all any queer person needs to know. I totally agree with this vid. Thank you!

  • @skurttie

aw thanks! yeah, the only folks who don't know about my queer-ness is my parents. my brother and sister know now, even know that i'm poly! yay!

  • @thetreethetree
