This a small clip on how to raise dermestid beetles. Bottom layer of tank is cotton batting that is topped with paper towels. The paper towels are to keep the cotton from getting moist when i water then. I water my beetles twice a day, because I have a coal burner right next to them. Try to keep the beetles between 70-80 degrees to keep them feeding. Above 85 they will start to fly. I witnessed it already. I also cover my skulls with cardboard. They seem to clean the skull quicker. I also place the skull on a piece of cardboard. The adult beetles will lay there eggs near a fresh skull. Make sure to keep your tank sealed tight. Otherwise you will get tons of new bugs in your tank looking to feed on the fresh skull. I found Ham Beetles and Spiders in there so far. I also started to talk about the degreasing process. That is going to be the next clip.

  • Awesome video! Do you hunt the animals ( cayote, etc, not the beetles :D ) ??

  • @ezekielcodd

I do alot for friends and family, and any animals I kill I clean as well.

  • very helpful, thats awesome. i'd at least separate those eyes and brain. brain holds an intense amount of bacteria from what i understand, the beetles dont like anything that is festering.

  • @kylemonkey

They waste no time on the brains. That is the first to go

  • do you mix the climbers chalk with the 40% peroxide or just sprinkle the chalk over the peroxide.

  • @acr6463c I mix the chalk with the peroxide to make a paste and then spread it over the skull. You can wrap it in plastic wrap and place it in front of a heater and it will work even better(rotate every 15 minutes)

  • what do you do in your tank that you let the beetles come out of the skulls? do you put a extra piece of meet in there to attract them out of the skull? or do they come out on their own?

  • vent sends the air into his bedroom, he loves the smell.

  • Awesome vid bro, Please send me a few beetles so I can start my own...

  • I think i'm more confused now

  • Thanks for the video, I learned a lot from it!

  • I've raised them. My bedding is wood chips (misted daily with water). The dermestid beetles love dog and cat kibble, white bread, lettuce, and fresh apples. protein is most important, but the other stuff they love with it. If you cook hamburger meat they will chomp on that too. They bore into wood to pupate, you could put a small piece of wood in the tank. For those of us who dont want to raise them on roadkill, feed them what I listed above.
