i agree with you to a certain extent. poor people will always be there. so government support must not be ruled out. however, education is the only empowerment out of poverty. if i were the president i would guarantee a loan via banks for any Kenyan above age 21 to any credible university/polytechnic/college in Kenya. Most parents give their kids basic education up to high school. College is usually the tricky part. this gamble will pay off in the future

K: 1,500/= a family won't buy much..but 600,000,000 could build 2000 rural schools (2 classes annually per sub location!!). Enough schools to move all children in slums to clean n neat classrooms. People ceased to think in this country n it's very annoying!

You teach a man how to fish. Don't give him fish! This system has failed in the US and it will not work in Kenya. We need jobs, We need economic growth and youth empowerment

Ludicrous! whose idea wz this? Giving people petty cash is cheap and fosters a new generation of welfare recipients. Fix the damn economy, fix agriculture and fix corruption by fixing politicians!
This will not give the poor their self esteem or work ethic! Its a cover up for ineptitude!
Ensure the system does not create over-dependency on hand-outs. Unless it is a money for work programme, e.g. keeping the environment in the slums clean, it will not be sustainable but just a short term mechanism of ensuring MPs have enough urban dwellers to guarantee their re-election to Parliament. Alternatively give the urban poor the money to go back and establish livelihoods in the rural areas. That amount of money and a cottage on half acre farm is far better than living in a Nairobi slum.

Now I think that idea of yours for people in the slums to go back to the villages and do farming is a better option. If this is being done only in nai, the migration to the city from all over Kenya will increase.
