(cont) As the donkey pointed out, these people are in the minority. For this to make a difference in the country it would need to be all of them. If this weren't true and everyone who makes more than a million thought they should pay more, why should they give a gift to the government? The government is not a charity, but IS in charge of making ethical fiscal policies that allow for spending only what they can afford to take in. Taxing the rich more comes closer to this

@goatpunchtheater A key problem here is that we can't trust the government to spend only what they can afford to take in. They always spend more, so allowing them to raise anyone's taxes just makes the problem worse.

Nowhere in this video was there anything that resembles a coherent argument. The argument as I see it is that because not many millionaires believe this way, then it must not be a good idea. Of course people don't want to give up their money! He then calls them liberal elite! This contradicts the argument. If the majority of millionaires aren't willing to contribute more money wouldn't that be more elitist? The "give a gift to the govt" argument at the end is ridiculous. It would not be enough

@goatpunchtheater You miss the point of who the "elites" are. They are not necessarily the ones with the most money. I see them as the ones who always think they know better and like to tell the rest of of what to do.

@goatpunchtheater Well that theory was shot down it the Bush era so now republicans are saying that these tax cuts help the rich to create jobs, and tax cuts will kill these jobs. The rich themselves pretty all agree this is not the case. The ones arguing for the Bush tax cuts are not saying it hurts their ability to create jobs. From everything I've seen they simply say that they earned the money and they shouldn't be penalized for succeeding. If you can prove me wrong I am willing to listen

@goatpunchtheater Not to mention this trickle down economic theory has been proved to be pointless many times throughout history. I would like to see just one instance in history where giving massive tax cuts to the rich has actually given an economy some sort of meaningful result. The answer is that it never has. By trickle down I mean the theory that tax cuts to the rich will allow them to spend more money and put it back into the economy and then this better economy will help the poor.

@lorafang I am going to assume you are a republican. If so I ask you this: By you're definition of elites, "ones who think they know better and like to tell the rest of us what to do" then wouldn't all of the republicans in congress e.g. john boehner who say that the rich are then job creators and we cannot tax them because it will kill jobs be the elitists? Especially since those who do create these jobs say that higher taxes don't affect their ability to create these jobs.

@goatpunchtheater The government didn't seem to spend more just because it was taking in more in that era, did it? I am voting Ron Paul because the entire tax system needs to be changed. He is the only one willing to do it. However, since he won't get elected we are going to stick with Keynsian economic policies, and if we do, taxing the rich more is a must.

@lorafang Why then were we much closer to a balanced budget in the Clinton era? Rich paying more taxes was a contributing factor to that. For the record I am far more libertarian, and I think austrian economics is more sensible then keynesian. Here is the difference. Obama, Clinton and Bush are all Keynsian proponents. However, Bush thought he could use Keynsian economics without spending any money. So he borrowed it and put us into ridiculous debt. (google both keynsian and austrian economics)
