Here's a fun way to check yourself: did you immediately start thinking "I need to send this to [my partner, spouse, ex, etc.]!" That's what I did and realized I was the model of ironic contempt, subconsciously wanting to shift responsibility.  I'm dumbfounded at my capacity for delusion.

And then I realized I do all of that too. And I thought problem was just him. But now I don't know how to bring up this problem without being an ass hole. In the end, I will be the know it all and he will be the unknowing victim. How frustrating. dumb ass boyfriend and smart ass me sounds complimentary, but it looks like there is going to be a lot of humbling on my end.

I also think it's not just romantic couples that could learn from this.

I watched this and identified with the Master - I inwardly shouted yeah! see! I was the Master while you hurled invective. Watch this and eat crow. The next day I fell from the lofty heights I had risen to so gracefully to the day before hearing Gottman. Whatever I did right as a Master was more than discounted by my woefully substandard communication techniques. It appears pride is my most fleeting of feelings, to an ex-Master communication basket case anyways.
