  • I was in a storm shelter on Keesler AFB when Elena hit. It was the oddest thing to experience! Thanks for posting this!

  • the shot at 3:00 on the clip is on the off ramp of I-10, not far from Keesler. I was in the wallcloud at the time and Keesler was recording gusts of 110 mph.

  • i lived on clearwater beach , fla when elena hit. we had to evacuate, and good thing we did too, cause the storm wiped out the causeway to the beach. it was a while b4 they let us go home. when we did get home we had about 2 ft of water(and fish) in our house. alot of clean up. i was a kid so i thought it was cool to have fish in the living room.

  • @toddfrazie My daughter Alana (a-lay-nuh) was born due to the low pressure of this hurricane as well. She was born September 4th in Jackson, MS. The doctor actually told me that the low pressure induced labor in her mother. Her mother also decided to spell her name Alana instead of Elena, but it is pronounced like Elena. Very interesting to have met someone born under, and named from the same hurricane!

  • I grew up in cedar key fl and I was seven when Elena hit. We did not evacuate and it seemed to last for days. Cool video

  • Hurricanes are strange beasts.

  • This Hurricane kicked my mom into Labor. I was born in Tampa, sept. 2 (85)during this storm. I was actually wondering how to pronounce it. I was thinking something like (L-N-uh). Is that right? If so, it's a candidate for my daughter's name, should I have one : )

  • I don't recall the name of the hall, but the 407-L was there. My (then ) husband was an instructor at Keesler from July '85 to '89.

  • I was living in Milton Florida when this Hurricane came through right after Hurricane Danny. We evacuated the first time she hit land and vowed never to do that again and just bunkered down for her next two tours of our area. When Elena was over we had to stay confined to our house an additional day because our yard became the evacuation point for every alligator in Blackwater Bay for almost 12 hours.

  • What stomr shelter were you in. I was in Thompson Hall.

  • I was living in Mississippi as a kid when Elena hit. I remember the weatherman saying it was going to hit florida but then came around and hit us. We didn't evacuate.
