Recent articles in the press have indicated that reducing meat consumption would save many thousands of lives. Processed meats were also mentioned.
The articles were based on recent research at oxford university in the UK.
The evidence implicating meat as a causative factor in cancer and heart disease is very weak. Processed meat on the other hand is strongly implicated.
Its irritating that articles in the media and scientific studies do not clearly delineate the difference between normal meat and processed meat.
A study by Harvard university researchers earlier this year quite clearly showed that normal meat (including red meat) did not increase the risk of heart disease, whereas processed meat did.
Numerous studies have linked preservatives (e.g. Nitrites and Nitrates) in processed meat products to various cancers of the digestive and urinary systems.
See this article and video for info on processed meats and cancer:

Fair.
Can't you say, the "anti-nutrient" content of plant-based proteins are generally present in un-cooked foods whereas they are removed during the cooking-soaking-sprouting-fermenting types of processes? I see raw meat being potentially very difficult for the human body to digest, etc... and it may be dangerous. So, we cook it. Same for vegetable proteins, no?
P.S.
Can't hemp seeds supplement people's protein requirements fairly well?
