just a quick test of my G80 in my 98' Silverado Z71. i didnt realize that i had the G80, but i was noticing a "bump" coming from the rear end when i was getting wheel slip. so, i did some research and come to find out i have the G80. i didnt know GM used that diff for that many years. this video was done in two wheel drive to show how well it works.

  • my truck has the G80 and when one wheel spins the other tire right away start spinning and is a 05 4x4

  • @rgonza43 right, im not doubting that the age of the truck my not have the G80 in it a bit slow. normally it locks up right away as well, but for some reason did not in this video.

  • How many kms (or miles) I didnt know I had it either because I thought v6 manual meant straight, but started suspecting it when going through muddy holes. Mines at 265 000 still working !

  • @Veikra its only got 130,000 miles on it. if your not sure if you have a G80 or not just look in the glove box and there will be a information sticker with a lot of codes on it. look for G80...if you see it you have it, if you dont....you get the picture.

  • What was causing the "bump"? Mine is doing the same thing at low speed on take off!!

  • @TheCatman35 its the g80 engaging. its normal

  • Mine dosnt have the G80 code so i installed a locker lol

  • @javojjaaf maybe needs a diff fluid change, with the limtied slip/posi additive

  • don't worry those are the first G80s the newer trucks have sensors but in time yours would still work and mine maybe not

  • @FordGarbage mine is jerky when mine engages is that normal?

  • @FordGarbage its working fine, if it were broken it wouldnt engage at all.

  • @javojjaaf I know it, opened it up for oil change and rear bearing seals change. No way in hell it could have been an open diff the way the truck moved. The guy that had it before bought it at the dealership, So I guess he built it that way. He just didnt need the 4x4 or the v8 so he must have put all the z71 stuff on a 4.3l manual.
