Thanks for the insights, I'm not satisfied with my first drum either and I'm going to start on the second tomorrow. Jumping straight into the square tongues - I'm going to try to emulate a certain 'happy' manufacturer in my design and see how that works out over the frustrating curved tongues.

HI Much liked your observations/ideas! The dragonfly theme is great!
Tuned beautifully as well. Good job

s9Teen - The first step was to lay it out and cut the wings/tongues. Then the background colors were spray painted. The dragonfly bodies were painted by hand with a brush and a paint pen. Then the dragonfly wings were masked off and spray painted. Then I used a Dremel tool to cut the wing veins into the base metal so that they had a metallic color. Lastly it was all clear coated to protect the paint and keep the wing veins shiney.

The Dragonfly Hank has some great tones in the deep tongues! Nice work. I was wondering however how you painted it? Simply spray paint good enough or do you need a special kind of paint?

Well done fellow "Hank Drum Instrumentalist." Have you ever considered making your tongues rectangular? It sure helps a lot.
Kingovviking - If I ever make another, I will likely try square tongues. My goal for the dragonfly hank was for the wings to be the tongues. It was a pain in the butt, but it worked fairly well.
