Raj Patel received his PhD in Sociology from Cornell University and has worked at the World Bank, World Trade Organization, and the United Nations. Raj is right. When you introduce markets into food, there are only 2 rules: One, if you have the money, you can buy food. Two, if you don't have the money, you starve. One cannot put it any simpler!

When, as a child, I was told that tale about starving Africans who would be delighted to have the ghastly slop served up as school meals, I offered to help the teacher wrap it up to send it to them. I was always a polite and helpful child.

The purpose of food is not to make profit of it, but to feed the people to get the nutrition needed for body to function properly.
