Author and activist Raj Patel explains the economic history of global markets in food production.

-----

Raj Patel discusses Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System.

Half the world is malnourished, the other half obese—both symptoms of the corporate food monopoly. To show how a few powerful distributors control the health of the entire world, Raj Patel conducts a global investigation. What he uncovers is shocking—the real reasons for famine in Asia and Africa, an epidemic of farmer suicides, and the false choices and conveniences in supermarkets. Yet he also finds hope—in international resistance movements working to create a more democratic, sustainable, and joyful food system. From seed to store to plate, Stuffed and Starved explains the steps to regain control of the global food economy, stop the exploitation of farmers and consumers, and rebalance global sustenance - Cody's Books

Raj Patel received his PhD in Sociology from Cornell University and has worked at the World Bank, World Trade Organization, and the United Nations. He is a writer and activist concerned with land reform politics, development studies, and food sovereignty. He authored Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System.

  • Raj is right. When you introduce markets into food, there are only 2 rules: One, if you have the money, you can buy food. Two, if you don't have the money, you starve. One cannot put it any simpler!

  • Raj specifically stated that feudalism is horrible and we wouldn't want to go back there. Socialism hasn't been discredited, capitalism has. Where have you been in the past 2 years?

  • @lyhpcl and western countries' governments give them some "taxpayer money" aid so as to maintain illusion that it's a human system

  • When, as a child, I was told that tale about starving Africans who would be delighted to have the ghastly slop served up as school meals, I offered to help the teacher wrap it up to send it to them. I was always a polite and helpful child.

  • Very intelectual, informational and truthfull.

The purpose of food is not to make profit of it, but to feed the people to get the nutrition needed for body to function properly.

  • Watching statism, crony capitalism, and socialism crash.

  • He seems quite knowledgeable about India and he is on the dot on the famines in India under the BRitish.

I am not sure why you say he is not knowledgeable.

  • So feudelism is the preferred solution now that communism and social has been discreditied?
