  • how is there a dislike button on ANY laura marling song?

  • This song makes me very emotional.

  • I think this song is about a woman who is a drug addict (poison in my veins). She has a man who loves her, but is abusive. She won't give herself wholly to him (what can I do with a girl who won't be mine?). When she gets home he is beating her, and throws her against a wall, killing her (now you've broken your only doll. And what can you do with a girl who won't be alive?)

Btw, I do think the man loves her, and is trying to save her from drugs, but handles it the wrong way.

  • I think it might be a combination of abuse and drugs because she says

"I fell into the street, poison in my veins, clambered to my feet and into the night again" possibly meaning she fell back into drugs to gather enough strength to go back to the house where the abuse happens (which could be symbolized as "the night")

  • this is really depressing. my names dora.

  • @GlassSlipperTears I'm not sure that's the meaning of the song, bud. I think it's about two people occupying the same residence who have differing romantic views for each other. it seemed to be so in the lyrics.

  • This song makes me want to cry. It's so pretty and sad.

  • she makes everything sound beautiful

  • @Yunns3 I think it’s about a woman who’s struggling with drugs and/or alcohol and that the man is trying to save her but in the wrong ways. He loses his temper and kills her.

  • @blueberryholiday I thinks it's about an abusive relationship, gender violence. The man sees her like his 'doll', and feels like her owner. In the end, I think he kills her ('Put his hand on my shirt, hand on my face, head to the wall and you've broken your only doll') because "what can he do with a girl if she refuses to be alive (since she doesn't want to be with him anymore)?" ...

Sadly, it happens all the time. This song is sad, but beautiful.

[Ehm... Sorry for my basic English!haha] :)

  • i love laura marling!! her songs are so poetic and beautiful! (: what exactly is this song about though?

  • god I can never get over how amazing her music is. It has so much depth it makes so much other music seem so shallow!

  • I love her! Thank yuu for uploading this! xD

  • thnx I LOVE Laura!

  • thank youu =] xx
