Bowfishing Big Bear Lake 13 July 2010.
Fish were deep and it was a tough shoot. I think we ended up with 5 carp. I missed the only decent shot I had at a toad at the marina that actually was near the top of the water. Dave stabbed the most and both him and his brother got their first carp.
Water temp is showing 64 now on BB MWD's website so it's still a little chilly for spawning. I think 65 or 66F was the magic number. A couple more days of warm sunshine and it should be back on.
The clouds were a PITA too, when they go over and block the sun the water goes dark and it's tough to see into the water.
We started at Big Bear Marina, then hit Metcalf Bay, then over to just west of the Observatory and then the flats just west of the public launch in the NE corner of the lake. When we left we drove by the east end of Erwin Lake and the carp were jumping like crazy so that may have been the late afternoon spot. The wind was pretty decent most of the day, laying down for most of the shoot.

anyway,
Lake hemet needs to have a (bow fishing) carp round up, they are everywhere! I coulda scooped 3-5 at a time with my net in 3 inches of water the other day.I wish I'd had a trash can to toss em in.
cool vid! good to see every one doing their part to rid those mud suckers from our waters.
