World Cup Soccer (FIFA 1974) Haiti shocked the world - Haiti vs Italy

Haiti vs Italy. The 16 finalists around the world gathered in W. Germany to compete for FIFA 1974 (Soccer World Cup 1974). Ti Manno (Emmanuel Sanon), the Haitian soccer legend/hero superstar, shocked the world when he scored the first goal against the giant Italy in June 15, 1974 during the FIFA 1974 World Cup (Soccer World Cup) at the Olympiastadion in Munich, West Germany. It was the case of David vs Goliah. Dino Zoff, the Italian goal keeper hero was believed to be invincible until Ti Manno of Haiti penetrated Zoff's virgin nets to put an end to that myth. Dino Zoff managed to keep a virgin net from 1972 to June 15, 1974. The final score: Haiti 1- Italy 3.

Remember that there were only 16 teams in the 1974 FIFA World Cup. Haiti was one of the 16 teams in the world.

Wrong. Plenty of achievement when placed in its proper context: first appearance in the world cup, first carribean nation in the world cup, first goal allowed by that Italien goalie after a very long stretch of games,first to score in game liken to David vs. Goliath. There. Now if U meant that we must look to the future and adding to this achievement, then I second that.

Not to mention this feat was done by the so-called poorest nation in the west. Most oppressed nation in the West. Thanks U.S

Haiti's group was the toughest. Poland was the best team in the tournament according to Germany's Paul Breitner, Italy was the favorite after finishing runner-up in 1970 and after not having given up a goal in over a 1000 minutes of international play, and finally, Argentina would win the world cup soccer just 4 years later. Any goal we score in that tournament was an achievement and even if it wasn't, just making a 16 team field was an achievement in itself. Vive Haiti!
