Cheers dude, a lot of tone comes from your fingers and how hard you pick with your plectrum, but for the general tone I'm using a computer programme called guitar rig, what i did was recorded the solo then I was able to edit the sound by changing the amount of treble/bass/distortion and adding in effects until i was happy with it, I used a pre made John Petrucci bank and tweaked it too my liking,thanks for commenting
