Every Saturday, we will be announcing a new [F]RAME YOUR BEST SHOT photo contest. And when there's a contest, there is a winner. And when there is a winner, there is a prize. Watch the video above to see more details.
Last week's category was "Black & White". We are privileged to have guest judge of this week's episode, Brooke Shaden: Here is her response:
1st Place winner of Ripe Social subscription: Andinov Photography
"This image employed wonderful use of the monotones. The black and white tonality gave the image a timeless quality, which was interesting paired with the distinctly modern styling on the model. The location also contrasted with the modern character we see in the image. The smoke in the background adds mystery to the image. It gives the impression that the area is not as deserted as one would think. The smoke adds a hint of action to an otherwise stationary shot. The sky in the background adds good balance with the model in the foreground, and the neutral field fills in the rest of the frame. Overall this photograph provided the mystery that I love to see in images as well as the contrast of a a modern tale with a timeless twist." CONGRATULATIONS!!!
2nd Place: SKDickerson Images
"This image was interesting in many regards, especially the painterly texture that was applied combined with the fairytale quality that the subject provides. The styling of the subject in the shot added to the childlike innocence that the flowers and field provide, yet the black and white gave the overall feeling a dark tone. Instead of being childlike and innocent, like the styling and location suggests, the stark contrast of the black and white makes the mood feel like it is on the edge of a storm and the innocence of the image is about to be swept away."
3rd Place: Nadia Joyce Photography
"Because this image is in black and white while also using a very dark frame, the viewer can focus on the few things highlighted in the image. The skin pops from the black background and shadows because of the interesting lighting and it makes one focus on form rather than subject. The viewer can follow many different lines in the image. It naturally draws the eye around the frame. I like the focus on the human form, and how, with the right lighting, it can look distinctly inhuman."

I'd like to see a bit longer [F]rame your best shot episodes. Not by much, but there could be a winner + two honorable mentions in each episode and the photos could stay on screen a bit longer. Otherwise I'm a big fan.
