AWE (animated work environment) is a robotic wall that can change the spatial characteristics of the work environment, adapting to such activities as collaboration, presentations, and gaming. Developed at Clemson University. Video presented at IEEE/RSJ IROS 2009. For more robot news, go to http://spectrum.ieee.org

  • I'm in AWE at the time and money spent here finding a solution to a problem that does not exist! Wasteful of resources and conceptually misguided in my view. What exactly does the 4 metre high "roof" actually give the user, except a headache if they stand up too quickly? And how many rooms have ceilings high enough to get this thing inside? Necessity is the mother of invention - over funding of lame concepts is often the death of it.

  • This is ridiculous. You built an ugly ass robotic wall that, in essence, moves monitors around. Don't you realize how expensive that is compared to just moving monitors around, buying multiple monitors, or hell, even just building a new room?

  • Cave johnson here, with the Apature science Panels!

  • All in all...its...just another robot brick in the wall

  • High tech wall! This might be a help with ergonomics concern.

  • omfg this wall is just unecessary

  • bull shit

  • portall!! :DD

  • And if this fails... Does it kill the people encased in it? This is just stupid. In that demo room you could have EVERYTHING that is on that stupid wall. You see, The AWE solves no issue, infact it creates one. What if multiple groups or people need to use a certain function, Rather then investing money into the room to make it multi purpose they got a AWE instead and now everyone has to wait their turn to watch it dick about and move a few panels of plastic about with some MASSIVE motors. fuck

  • @FridayFBDanceParty in 50 years you are gonna be like ur mom or dad or any old person whos like I HATE TOUCH SCREEN...... the reason behind me saying this is because this is a basic model for something that could possibly be revolutionary. sure this thing is mad expensive now. but in 50 years who knows........ maybe ull have one in ur living room that u picked up off the street cuz someone threw there old one out or something -_- like u neeeeeeeeeever know

  • @istompedthehonk No one is proposing that we move your walls, couch, TV or toilet. Are you aware that there are places that technology may be applied in the world that does not directly relate to you, and yet may still be important? Consider how this might be used in field applications, hospitals, laboratories, control rooms for oceangoing vessels, factories and design studios. I'm sure that when the first transistor came out, many ignorant people didn't understand that, either.
