Mehdi Karoubi in an exclusive interview with Netherlands Television Channel 2 spoke about the post-election events. In the interview Karoubi said that he did not think there would be confrontations (by the government against the people) and specifically with this extent, savagery and brutality.

He added: The fact that they (the coup agents) were beating women, beating elderly, and so comfortably was new for me. We had a lot of [political] activities during Shahs time. Those days they were not beating this comfortably. During the time of the dreadful Shah, they were only trying to checkmate people in the protests and disperse. Mehdi Karoubi in response to the interviewers question regarding the possibility of his detention said: There is nothing that we can say is impossible.
Because of the security concerns, the name of the interviewer is not mentioned in the interview and his face is not shown and his voice is also altered.

In another part of his interview, Karoubi, the secretary general of Etemad Melli Party, criticized Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and said: The serious problem of Ahmadinejad is his creating enemies and provoking countries against our country.

The producers of this television program indicate that Karoubi has been forced to stay home. Mehdi Karoubi at the beginning of this interview says: Our hands are tight.

Regarding the Ahmadinejad supporters attack on him at the media fair on October 23 of this year in Tehran, the former speaker of the parliament said: At the media fair they attacked, insulted and threw stuff at us. Of course I am upset. At the media fair in Tehran, the attack by plain clothes militia who were carrying clubs caused Karoubis turban fall on the floor. At the end of this interview, Karoubi expressed sadness over the post-election events and said: Most of my sadness is for the society because I felt that people came out for change and it didnt happen. He added: It is clear that people will achieve their legal demands.
