Like chewing the gristle on a chicken bone.
That's how Brent Case describes the hungry, grumpy grizzly bear gnawing on the back of his head. 'He's eating my brain. I can feel it,' recalls Case who pretended to be dead while the bear jumped up and down on him several times, then wandered off. He was left with gashes on his head, arm and knee. Yes, Sring has arrived, lots of hungry bears looking for food. Until the vegetation begins to green, the bears emerging from dens after fasting in hibernation for several months are not very particular about what they snack on. This was one of the first bear attack in B.C. this season and came just days before the province announced $450,000 dollars for bear awareness programs aimed at reducing the number of human-bear conflicts.
A Lycoming County woman suffered bites on her leg, and an injured hand as she tried to save her dog last week.
If you chance upon a bear:

Stay calm. Make noises. Find a route away from the bear.
Face the bear, but avoid direct eye contact. Do not turn and run or climb a tree.
If a bear prepares to attack, stand your ground, wave your arms wildly and shout.
If a bear attacks, fight back. Black bears have been driven away with rocks, sticks, binoculars, car keys and even bare hands.
If you see a bear cub, leave it alone. "During the spring, sows may leave their cubs for several hours, typically up in a tree, while they forage," Ternent said. "The best advice is to leave the area and never retrieve the cubs. Staying in the vicinity only prevents the mother from returning and attempting to care for them."

  • Bears attack because they feel their turf is threatened. By playing dead a person is no longer percieved as a threat. Of course they will continue to paw and bite until they are sure. Many survivors have said that the worst part wasn't the pain, but hearing the crunching sounds.

  • Hi, i can't imagine being able to keep still and quite if your attacked. I think that's what happened to Grizzly Man Treadwell's girlfriend, she just screamed and hit the bear. Have you seen that excellent doco 'Grizzly Man'?

  • I think in reality, those who "play dead" have actually surrendered and accepted inevitable death, as opposed to courageously remaining still. People say that once you accept that you are going to die a calm comes over you.

I haven't seen that doc... I'll have to look for it.

  • I think it'd on YT. I don't know if i could accept a bear chewing his way through my skull. Let's hope i never have to find out! I just read a reveiw for Indy, looks like a winner. They are spending about 150 mil to promote. I've seen your vids on the promotion.

  • I have lived in California, the 'Bear Flag' state, all my life and have spent alot of time in the mountains, but I have yet to see a bear in the wild. Have not seen any mountain lions either, but I have tracked them.

  • I guess that's a good thing. Pumas have killed a few people. What do they say, carry a stick, yell show your teeth rise your arms over your head and don't run away.

  • The guy on Letterman seems like such a dick compared to the badass Canadian, like seriously, what does the prettyboy know about surving a 900 pound grizzly attack?!

  • some bears are so big guns may not bring them down. I suggest fireworks, spark throwing objects will catch there fir on fire.

  • anyone know what that fox looking thing is at the end?

  • @frankystein12 The "pretty boy" as you call him, was actually eaten by a bear about 4 years ago. There is one tape that recorded every sound of that vicious attack, including his last screams and the moment the fucking bear was crushing his bones while eating him. Are you happy now?

  • Against any wild animal if you are lucky to come out alive, stay the fuck away from them...

  • Kudos to the guy not mentioning God.

  • @aliceangel7 if only she knew the only thing that she had to do was show it her tits

  • WHAT THE FUCK

  • Hit and runs are ok, but bear attacks are terrible. Since there are not that many bears in the woods these days; when they are gone, what will be the latest news story sensation? Hopefully they build a 400 lane highway to avert another bear attack on this important 'family'. And they should build a 500 storey hospital, and build a military base nearby as well. An anti-tank round should easily kill this dangerous bear. But an atomic warhead may be needed too. Do it soon ! Or we'll all die !

  • @gymer15 a 30.06 will take a bear down faster then you can say the word i.

  • Carry a big can of bear spray

  • i dunno if this is the right place for this but i seen your comment below about the grizzly man. Do you think he was on a suicide mission?? i got that feeling watching that documentary, but still cant work it out?
