Glenn Ford was so well casted as Pa Kent. I'm glad he signed on, thankfully didn't think this was going to be some low budget dumb flick, and I'm sure Richard Donner impressed him.

I met Glenn Ford, about a year before his death. It was very sad...he was bedridden and unable to speak after several strokes and years of alcoholism. My boss was his physician.

I remember when I first saw this movie when I was about 7 or 8, this scene gave me chills. Still does to this day. Long live Superman.

@JeremyGSU If you can watch it again and look closely at the truck as the jack falls you'll notice the truck tilting and falling at the same time then suddenly stopping. It's quick so you gotta pay close attention.
