I really like Carter's commenting on THE X-FILES oweing a lot to the 1991 masterpiece THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. That was the first film to popularise the element of forensic science, which gave THE X-FILES the basis for modern ghost stories to tell those huddled around the modern electronic campfire. Today there are countless prime time shows that are direct descendents of THE X-FILES.
