Took some shots of my favorite guitar with my Canon HV30. This was a little low-light test I did in 30p mode with locked exposure. I decided to put it to music and edit it. I also did some post-processing to some of the clips.

About the guitar (for those interested):
2004 Fender Lite Ash Strat
Warmoth Pro 10"-16" compound radius neck - maple neck & mahogany fretboard w/ stainless frets
LSR Roller Nut
Schaller Locking Tuners
Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro p'ups (neck & middle)
Lace Sensor Red p'up (bridge)

  • did you try the pearly gates by seymour duncan? and how do they compare to the alnico?

  • No, I haven't ever used Pearly Gates. Sorry. The Alnico II Pro's give you that basic, classic Strat sound. Not overwound, but just a touch hotter than standard Strat pickups. Better tone though.

  • I have the same hardware on my strat. It does not stay in tune when using the wammy. Do you have the same problem? If not any tips?

  • I don't use the tremolo. I have 5 springs on the bridge and it's bottomed out against the body like a fixed bridge so I'm not sure how it would behave with the whammy bar. I would say that if you in fact have the LSR roller nut and the locking tuners, then your tuning issues probably lie in the string saddles. Upgrading your bridge (or at least the saddles) would probably solve the problem. There are graphite saddles out there that are pretty nice.

  • The vid looks professionally done. Excellent job.

  • could you put up a video of you playing with the red lace sensor with plenty of distortion, i'm planning on buying it for myself this christmas, so i would really appreciate it.

  • "Full HD" is really just a marketing point for televisions. The meaning is that it is capable of handling all HD formats i.e. 720p, 1080i, 1080p, etc. A 1080i television is not considered "Full HD" because it cannot handle 1080p playback. However, before the 1080p format came along, 1080i WAS considered "Full HD." So under that rationale, the HV30 certainly is not "Full HD" as it is not capable of recording the 1080p format. But it's more a matter of semantics than one of imaging capabilities.

  • Yes, I know (mine is the PAL version and has "only" 50i and 25p) Thank you for your reponse but I'm not asking if the camera is HD, the question is is it FULL HD. I heard FULL HD is 1080p. The camera, even if I record in 25p, is still 1080i, right?

  • I forgot to add that the HV30 has 3 shooting modes: aside from the typical 60i, there is also 24p and 30p to choose from which are progressive frame rates.

  • Well, being interlaced vs. progressive is not the determining factor in whether a camera is HD. You're talking the same number of pixels, but interlaced fields (i) vs. progressive frames (p). It's the pixel count that determines HD vs. SD. 1080p is still an emerging HD format, but no "more" HD than 1080i.
