The fenced property at Hemet is home to about 800 members of Sea Org. It is also where Miscavige keeps an office. According to the New Yorker, which has interviewed several dozen former scientologists as well as Haggis, leaders there are encouraged "to instil aggressive, even violent, discipline".

@zzap999 My point is that all religions have created problems in this world one way or another. One religion attacking another for being crazy is just plain hypocrisy in my eyes. If Scientologists really do brainwash, torture, or kill anyone then they should be prosecuted like Catholic priests who are pedophiles but if most of them obey the law then noone should be making a big feakin deal about them.

@zzap999 I can I agree that both Reformation and the Renaissance movement brought more humanist ideals to the world but nothing really changed when it came to slavery, theocracy, absolute monarchy, and freedoms until the Enlightenment. But Prostestans did believe in theocracy and slavery at one time that is a fact, just look at our early history alone. The one great thing they did is that they rebelled agianst the corrupt Catholic church which kept Europe in the dark for so long.

The doctrine of Apostolic succession is the foundation for Catholic theocracy. Remember, the word "Protestant" comes from the word "protest". The word "protest" means to rebel, speak against, insult, question. Theocracy was the object of hatred and protest for Protestants.

@BakersfieldGamer4u You don't reach Enlightenment(18th century) when you are not allowed to question authority and old ideas during Reformation(15th century). Scientific discoveries had existed for centuries before Enlightenment within the church yet repressed for fear of going against the status quo. Protestants and Catholics agree on the fundamental doctrines of Christianity(nature of God, Christ, salvation, etc.). However, Protestants do not and never will believe in Apostolic succession

@zzap999 The Reformation didn't give all those ideas you mentioned the Enlightenment did. European nations were still very theocratic during and the end of the Reformation, Protestans still believed in most if not all the things Catholic believed in which include war, imperialism, slavery, and of course theocracy which they brought to America. It took people in the Enlightenment like John Locke to bring the liberal ideas to the world which inspired our founding fathers to rebel not Reformation.

@BakersfieldGamer4u All of those things you mentioned happened under a Catholic theocracy. Then came the Protestant Reformation led by Martin Luther to end oppressive theocracy . The freedom of religion, freedom of the press, individualism, minority rights, separation of church and state, etc. came from the Protestant Reformation. The forefathers of the United States were Protestants and that's why we have those rights to this day. Without the Reformation, America would be Iran.

@zzap999 Only the leaders wanted materialistic gains and power not the majority of the people. The brainwashed people who followed the leaders wanted to get to heaven and thought by killing nonbelievers would get them there and thats what fueled the Crusades. Also the Christian obsession of conversion led to the deaths of millions by the spread of disease and wipping out anyone who didn't convert. Seriously face it, Christian imperialism will always be inbedded into the entire religion.

@BakersfieldGamer4u The first 300 years of Chrisitianity was all preaching and willful conversion. If you read the book of Acts it was the Holy Spirit who convicted of their sins and led them to salvation. What happened after that is just nations like the Spanish, English who went out to conquer for materialistic gain. They would of done that whether they were Chrisitian or not. The fact they were "Christian" was because Christianity was already in their culture and traditions.
