It's the last rehearsal before opening night for a troubled theatre group, and the director Harry Heartburn is doing his best not to lose it and hold the troupe together. The lead actor is acting out and bungling the pivotal scene, hormones are raging, tempers are flaring, and the Mob just showed up to collect the past due rent. But the show must go on!
Winner of the following awards at the 48HFP in Boston:
Best of Boston Finalist, Audience Award Winner for Group A
Best Acting
Best Editing
Best Use of Genre
Best Use of Character.
Made as part of the 2006 Boston 48 Hour Film Project, Opening Night Jitters represents the results when Playomatic Productions only has 48 hours to conceive, script, produce, shoot, edit, score and master a short film. On the evening of Friday, April 7th, Playomatic randomly drew the "Silent Film" genre out of a hat again and was informed the following items must be included in the film:
Prop: Bicycle Pump
Character: G. Goforth, Competitive Eating Contestant
Line of Dialogue: "Thats why I dont trust her anymore!"
This acclaimed short was shot on Saturday, April 8th, at the Griffen Theatre in Salem, MA and edited on Sunday, April 9th, at Playomatic Headquarters. It was first screened on Tuesday, April 11th in Cambridge, and later was be included in the 2006 Best of Boston screening on May 16th, 2006 in Somerville at the Good Times Emporium. The extended cut was featured as part of the Marblehead Festival of Arts Film Festival on July 1, 2006.

  • LOL You're a cracker.

  • Yes, getbak is correct, this is the director's cut. I think all of our 48HFP films on this site are spiffed up versions of the originals, which often meant adding material we cut during the first draft. Maybe the more appropriate name is "Extended Cut"

  • Yeah, but you want it to be good quality.

  • Very good job of recreating the silent film. The only thing that was missing was the scratches and dirt on the film.

  • Still my fave! Love that janitor guy!

  • Ahhh! I love it. So nostalgic. We should start a film cult that only makes sepia movies and drinks red Kool-Aid.

  • Brilliant! So well done. I felt like I had time-warped!

  • You´re gonna laugh...The drum track I was hearing was from the safar video you recently posted...I had it open in another window, in advertently. Didn´t mix well with the piano track on this vid, at all! Works fine in Zimbabwe, of course...

  • Excellent performances by the lovely and talented Ms. Deacon and Mrs. Baldwin. Always awesome to see Mr. Smith, Erik and Jennifer. What great stuff...Acting was perfect, editing concise, photography great. I like this film.

One thing, though--lose that annoying drum track.
