AMERICANS ARE UNDER THREAT FROM ANTIBIOTIC-RESISTANT SUPERBUGS,
making us vulnerable to common, once treatable infections. Unfortunately, a remarkable 80 percent of antibiotics in the U.S. are used not by humans, but by the meat and poultry industries so factory farm animals can grow faster and survive crowded and unsanitary conditions.

This is creating superbugs and humans are exposed in a number of ways, including when we handle or eat undercooked meat. Our life-saving drugs are becoming less effective when we really need them. Unfortunately, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has refused to take meaningful action to restrict the use of unnecessary antibiotics in livestock production.

But consumers can still do something to make change. We can be the catalysts to turn the tide on this public health crisis. We can show our support for companies that don't take our health for granted, and we are asking grocery stores to join us by choosing to only sell meat raised without antibiotics.

We're calling on Trader Joe's to only source their meat from animals raised without antibiotics. As one of the most progressive national retailers, Trader Joe's has already demonstrated care for their customers' health by saying no to GMOs, artificial colors and trans fats in the products they sell. Trader Joe's can also be a leader by helping move the livestock industry in the right direction.

This was one of the big reasons why I became a vegetarian, so I absolutely support this cause. Off topic question: what is the music that is used in this clip?

If your animals need antibiotics to survive the conditions in which they're being raised for food, something is VERY wrong.

Farmers and Ranchers are experts in their line of work and consult with other experts such as nutritionists and veterinarians to ensure that animals are raised safely and efficiently. The more efficiently a process can be conducted, the more food prices can be kept down for consumers. Farmers and Ranchers continue to work extremely hard to feed the world taking on extreme financial risk, long grueling hours and major investments; trust and support them.

I have bee vegetarian since 1974. I chose this because I do not believe in killing animals. A great side effect is, at 57 I have no health problems.

Unfortunately becoming vegetarian will not totally protect you. The bacteria from the meat industry contaminates the non-meat food too. Remember the cantaloupes and the peanut butter and the bagged spinach? Either grow your own or wash everything very carefully!

How about no meat at all? Meat is not a sustainable food and requires more ressources than we can afford (wheat, water, etc...). I've been living as a vegetarian since I was born and more people should make this choice if they care about their health and the planet's.
