McIntosh MC 2105 Amplifier

A nice old McIntosh amplifier. Huge amounts of power that can drive most speakers. The sound is expansive, crystal clear, and has very controlled bass.

A great amp for more than 30 years old.

I was a great amp that I sold last week. After 25 years it sounded perfect. I sold it because it had too much power for my speakers -- Snell EII's.

Now I'm running a McIntosh 225 tube amp that is magical! but low power...

Yeah, they're nice, but they don't deliver. It's funny how you name Krell, sold one on Ebay a few years ago, sounds like crap compared to the Mc. Nothing compares. You're attempting to compare a Bosendorfer Concert Grand Piano to a Kurzweil Electronic 88 key keyboard. The Kurzweil is very clean, but has no real punch. Taste is unique. Some people like Fillet rare, others prefer New York Strip medium well. We go our separate ways.

@Anderskh That's only true when you are interested in listening to music. If you want your system to also support Home Theater sound reproduction, tube amps absolutely cannot cut the mustard. Note: I'm not talking about multichannel surround system set-ups, just 2-channel goodness.

@amiaminot I can guarantee you that your amp is in need of a major servicing at this point. I just had my Dad's MC2105 serviced and although it sounded great, its transient response was very slow / flabby. The capacitors were leaking voltage in a major way. After a full recap, cleaning and rebiasing, the amp is much more focused and aggressive yet still casts that monstrously musical soundstage.

I'll take sound purity over power any day.Eg:tube amps. I have always liked Mac. I have listened to some Air Tight amps that were astounding.
