To me it is all over DSP (digital signal processing) processed crap. The whole industry has you buffaloed. You are NOT hearing a wall Marshall amps, but maybe 1-3 cabs mic'd into the PA. Guys like Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan, going back to Djengo and some guy I saw on an old Newsreel circa 1945 that could shred on a Gibson Super 400 or L5 with the high action and huge neck to the point of insanity. Playing fast notes just gets OLD FAST. One note loaded with soul = 1,000,000 rapid scales any day.

You're all immature. If Petrucci and Slash sat in a room together with their instruments, they would both have fun with it and both players would probably learn something. Real musicians don't try to out-do each other or argue about who is better, so shut the fuck up about it. They're both good for very different reasons. It's about the love for the music, not about trying to play faster than the next guy. And people with that silly competitive mentality are even getting famous nowadays. awful.

I fucking hate kids nowdays. Instead of listening to good fucking music you all just sit around make a competition out of it. Petrucci is a technique based player, Slash is a rough edged player that plays with a hell of a lot more soul. But does it matter? Their styles deviate FAR too much to be intelligently compared. They're both good, and both DT and GnR have great songs. Appreciate good music in a world filled with shitty music.

@Moon4464 More popular doesn't neccesitate better, besides have you even examined the other members of Dream Theater? Rudess is a wizard on the keys, anything he does is gold, Myung has the one of the coolest bass solos ever in "Dance of Eternity" or the drums in "As I Am" and "Constant Motion".. This didn't even show Petrucci's "Stream of Consciousness" solo. Dream Theater has way longer songs, and more styles and skill throughout their music. But sure, Guns and Roses has a few decent songs.

This is the stupidest comparison ive seen yet. slash is the child, Petrucci is the hardcore bachelor uncle. slash lacks originality, or advanced technique. All he has going for him is the look which has gotten old. nothing original or impressive about his playing. Petrucci on the other hand, completely opposite story.
