tizfreecharm: I'm sorry to say that I didn't get a chance to see Cozzene at Aqueduct, so II'll take your word that he ran a good race - he was an honest sort and was extremely consistant, especially at a mile. It must have been something to see, since it would take a Herculean effort to beat Royal Heroine, Miesque, and Lure at the same time - I'd pay to see it. :)
I saw Royal Heroine beat everybody in the 1984 Arlington Million except John Henry, so I was confident enough to put her atop Cozzene and Star Choice in the BC Mile; I was equally confident that Cozzene would win the 1985 BC Mile.
If you mean that the next time Royal Heroine met Cozzene, you could be right. If you meant that she would have beaten Cozzene that day at Aqueduct, I can't agree with you. I doubt that Miesque or Lure could have beaten him in that race. :)
My friend kept talking about Cozzene, and the fact that he ALWAYS ran the mile in 1:33 flat. I said that meant Royal Heroine would run a 1:32 4/. He was right, Cozzene DID run a 1:33 mile, while I was off a fifth of a second - Royal Heroine set an American record by running a 1:32 3/. It was a helluva race, and my smile lasted for days. Cozzene came back to win the race a year later, but I like to think it's because Royal Heroine wasn't in the race (or she would have beat him again).
