According to a few sources, Dragster, along with Fishing Derby, was one of the first games ever made by Activision. Legend has it that they, and all of their games, were programmed by one man. Dragster, Enduro, and Grand Prix use identical engine sound effects.

From the manual: "Game Objective: Beat your opponent across the screen, or race against the clock for the best time. Game Controls: To shift gears, clutch by pushing the left Directional Button and shift by letting it go. Press the X Button for gas. To steer, push the Up/Down Directional Buttons."

Steerable Dragster sure is unstable! I tried to get a game where there was no frequent skidding on the wall present, and this came as result. It turned out to be somewhat less appealing than the straight Dragster game, however. I did try to space out the gears evenly here, as well, and did a decent job at it.

  • Look into the black hole of the video game collapse of the early 80's, at its core you will find games like this.

  • Would that be a positive or negative aspect?

  • loved this game, 5.64 was my best, yeh baby. although i never did steering mode, used to annoy the hell out of me. ah atari 2600, graphics were pox but games had character about them, these days games look great but lack character.

  • Puaj. I want to forget this game

  • I OWNED this game when I was a kid. None of my friends could beat me. Watch the revs or you'll blow the shift! Must of went through 12 joysticks playing this...

  • what a great game!

  • Haha, this game looks pretty neat! I like how they include a steering mode incase shifting is not your cup of tea. Looks like this game could've been the influence for Grand Prix.
