Val Italo plays Solfeggietto by CPE Bach.

After his piano recital Val wanted to try this piece on the Yamaha in the recital hall because the action was much different than the Steinway we have at home.

We recorded it just for fun. Not totally clean but Val thought it was good enough to share so here it is.

Age - 10 Years
Piano Experience - 21 Months

  • Great job! BTW Val, you might consider raising your wrist position.

  • I think we have said this to Val about a gazillion times. His teacher and mom and dad are always telling him "wrists up". Old habits die hard, but we are not giving up. Excellent suggestion.

  • Really is genuinely good playing. Just that, obviously his wrist position has already been mentioned, but he needs to play with the points of his fingers, rather than playing with the flat of them. Curled fingers, playing with the point. Practice scales with the point, as small a hand shape as possible, and as little finger movement as possible.

Bach is hard to play, he's done really very well with it.

  • Wasn't it Horowitz that kept a low wrist position particularly in the left hand. Come to think of it Glenn Gould...

  • relax ur body

  • wow.. such talent.. o_o

  • Hey VaL!! That was spectacular!!! I love seeing the passion and intensity on your face and in your expressions as you play this! You rocked the house! You play so well, and sound amazing! Way to go!

  • ya man ns comment

  • That was played too quickly man, you rushed it and didn't get the good baroque styling of it, the notes didn't sound right at that speed and you should play it at a more comfortable tempo that you can play without making mistakes that were there, but otherwise good (although maybe next time don't record your face - including the funny faces you pulled as you were playing :D )

  • You are right about the action of the Yamaha being different than the Steinway. I have played two Steinway pianos and both were hard to play. I was told that after Fender bought them out they were not as good as the old Steinways. The easiest and best sounding piano that I have played as of this comment was an old Kirtzwell. Yamaha makes a good piano. They have good action and sound. I enjoyed your playing. Thanks for sharing!

  • Definitely practice this slowly; it's not quite even yet. Someone's already mentioned the wrists. Great job!
