This is a live performance of the tribute song, Ladies of Jazz. The performance features, Gwen Matthews, Timotha Lanae, Thomasina Petrus, and Debbie Duncan. Ladies of Jazz was written by Timotha Lanae, with music written by JP DeLaire and produced by Ben Obi. It pays homage to female pioneers of Jazz such as, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, and Lena Horne. The Ladies of Jazz single features 14 of the Twin Cities premier female vocalists; Mary Jane Alm, Jamecia Bennett, Aimee Bryant, Debbie Duncan, Aimee Fischer, Cynthia Johnson, Kathleen Johnson, Timotha Lanae, Gwen Matthews, Charmin Michelle, Patty Peterson, Thomasina Petrus, Jodie Sellers, and Jearlyn Steele. It is the first project of MN Artists for Youth in the Arts (MAYA). MAYA is an organization founded by Timotha Lanae, Gwen Matthews, and Ben Obi to enrich, educate and encourage youth in the arts. The Ladies of Jazz single will be available for purchase online in April, 2010, with proceeds going to programs that benefit youth in the arts.
