In the 1960's many railway lines throughout the United Kingdom were closed in apparent attempt to save money, it would be known as the 'Beeching Axe'. One such line was between Bridgnorth and Ironbridge. If the government at the time had been able to see into the future, they would've seen the great long term potential railway lines like this could have on the local economy. Unfortunately for the Bridgnorth to Ironbridge line it is now to late to reopen, this is because a new housing estate and private golf course is located on the route just north of Bridgnorth town.
