John Platt: The next event of interest was the broadcast on Top Gear (4th February) of a Magic Band session. Without access to Peel, it's hard to say when and where the tracks were recorded. It's just possible that they were recorded during the London visit, but a story persists that the tracks were acetates brought over by the band, although the same applies to a second session broadcast the following May ... .
Whatever their origin the song selection Yellow Brick Road, Abba Zaba, Electricity, Sure Nuff is odd. All were from Safe As Milk and consequently over a year old. One would have thought that they would have wanted to unveil new material (especially as they had already begun recording a new album) or an unrecorded blues standard ... . The only explanation is that Pye (Buddah's outlet here) had finally decided to release the album and the session was a bizarre attempt to promote it.

John Platt: During the May '68 visit Peel had broadcast a second 'live' Magic Band session. All four tracks were to appear on Strictly Personal [...] (and all four were brilliant). I suspect that it was these tracks that were brought over by the band as 'work in progress', rather than the first session. Against the idea is the fact that the original tour itinerary lists a date (6th May) for 'Top Gear', which was not one of it's broadcast days. Possibly, therefore, the session was recorded on that day and broadcast (as indeed it was) the following week.
