The orchestration sounds very Italianate--compare Vivaldi's "L'inverno". Neat music and good modal/falsetto gradation in the perfomance.

officially this part of the opera is called "frost scene" sung by a character "the cold genius" who has been frozen, disappointed by love and life, and is now reluctantly woken by cupid. in purcell's original it is a bass aria
