I wish to hell so many sopranos would not back off the tone on the second syllable of Depuis......and sing through so the meter is not so obvious. This was one of the big things that USED to be taught!
DEpuis...LE jour ugh

Exquisitely done!! and with more feeling and excitement than many recordings by other great singers. Perfect tempi variations, as per the score. We miss you, Bubbles!

Love her!!

She sings with a phenomenal mix of delicacy of feeling and immediacy. The vibrato has become rather insistant at this stage of her career, but it is so much a part of her musical expression that we can overlook it. This is Louise waking to the first feelings of love. Beverly Sills a beloved and dedicated artist.

Une des chanteuses les plus intelligentes,et celà s'entend!

I love this aria. But let me go out on a limb here: if Sills had learned how to integrate her chest voice into her head register, she would have been even better. Her voice overall would have been richer. And her top notes would have been rounder and less squally. Miss Liebling, God bless her, seemed unable understand the female chest register, much less develop it. Don't get me wrong. Sills was a great artist. But I'm convinced that her voice could have been better --

A truly sublime rendition, thanx for sharing this most beautiful recording.
Beverly Sills, soprano (1929-2007) Whenever I hear her sing this in this recording, I cry. I is so healing and moving, all at the same time. The world misses you and we will mourn your death for many years to come...a voice silenced, never to sing again, only in our memories and hearts.
