Julie Oehme performs her original song "Survive" - lovingly dedicated to all of those who have survived seemingly unbearable circumstances, battled illness, lost a loved one, or who have simply been courageous enough to hold onto hope. (Copyright 2010 Julie Oehme)

Survive (Lyrics)

In the moment when I finally feel the burden
Of everything that's been done,
Is when in my heart I know for certain
That the battle is half won.
There's enough of this cruel world's riches left for me,
And I know this life can be extraordinary
If I choose to let it be.

I don't want to feel dead in the water.
I don't want to feel like I haven't arrived.
I don't want to feel like I sleep walk through my days,
Cause I know that I'm more than what I survive.
I'm more than what I survive.

No one ever said that deafening silence
Would be easy on the ears.
And there's a pain that comes with quiet defiance
Be it for moments or be it for years.
There's a patience in the wake of knowing
It's the journey we should feel.
And every little bit is a part of growing,
Of knowing when to turn and how to deal.

I don't want to feel dead in the water.
I don't want to feel like I haven't arrived.
I don't want to feel like I sleep walk through my days,
Cause I know that I'm more than what I survive.
I'm more than what I survive.

I don't want to feel the weight of it all,
But it's the only way to know
Where my story peaks and where it falls...

I don't want to feel dead in the water.
I don't want to feel like I haven't arrived.
I don't want to feel like I sleep walk through my days,
Cause I know that I'm more than what I survive.
I'm more than what I survive.
I'm so much more than what I survive.

  • It is my hope that this song finds its way into the ears of the person who needs to be reminded that their beautiful heart, mind, and spirit are made up of so much more than simply the pain that they have endured. Whether you are embarking on a journey of extraordinary challenge, in the throes of a pain you aren’t certain you can endure, or sitting quietly in your darkest hour, please know this:

You are so much more than what you have survived.

    With Love,

    Julie Oehme

  • This song has already reached so many people. Julie was gracious enough to allow a phenomenal young singer, Terra Kauffman to record it, and it was released on 2010 MWAS Junior CD Sampler. Julie's transparency speaks of one who has traveled the road of joy and pain. Her humility testifies to the lessons learned that life without either, or both - is truly less of a life. The human experience deepens as we open up and breathe in all of what is out there for us to learn. Keep on keeping on, Julz.

  • Thank you Julie for inspiration to move through my darkest day! What a great reminder that I am so much more than the weight of the moment!
