Tatiana Gutsu 1991 Worlds Team Optional BB

Tatiana Gutsu peforms her optional balance beam routine in the team competition of the 1991 World Championships. She gets the highest optional beam score with a 9.987. She qualifies 5th into the event finals, where she wins the silver medal.

She is performing while Kim Zmeskal is on the floor exercise. If you look closely, you can see Shannon Miller and Steve Nunno in the background.

Tatiana Gutsu had the 3rd highest optional total in the competition.

I'll say. Wow! I know how revered Gutsu was back in the day for her incredible difficulty, but that dismount is still incredible almost 20 years later. A lot of people did full-ins off the beam back then, so that's incredible in and of itself. But the three back handsprings going into it? Impossible.

@EdGringo78 - errrr if you pause it @ around 0:27 you will see in no way is it Betty Okino considering she was taller, thinner and of mixed race....thats Zemeskal confirmed by the cheesy choreo.......and confirmed by the 3 whipbacks in the middle tumbling run.......

She deserved that score for not wavering an inch with the very high crowd noise with Zmeskal's routine.

dont get me wrong,i love this beam routine,but her full twist is uneccessary and so is all of those leaps. The dismount was gourgous.

She doesnt seem to have that big of a dancing artistic ability,but you can still tell shes a soviet...
