http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/search.aspx?keywords=marshall%20jmd When Marshall announced their new JMD:1 range of digital/valve technology amplifiers they spoke of Combined Technologies this is a perfect description for this new Marshall Range in that Marshall have integrated traditional Valve Technology - that provides musicians (and guitarists in particular) with the great warmth and sonic capabilities of Valves, with the newer technology of digital amplifiers that brings purity and immaculate clarity to the party ...

Marshall have successfully combined both technologies in the JMD:1 range of amplifier heads and combos to produce a kind of hybrid amplifier that utilises the best of both analogue and digital technology. Also mixed into the recipe is a smattering of studio quality programmable digital effects that will sweeten the overall sound whilst adding atmospheric qualities to your guitar performance.

In order to design this amplifier range Marshall worked in collaboration with a team of Swedish software designers on an application they have dubbed Softube essentially this is a software based amplifier emulation programme that produces complex algorithms in the pre-amplifier allowing the JMD range to generate high definition tones that both sound and feel completely natural. By working simultaneously on both the Pre and Power stages of JMD:1 the software boffins have allowed the changes in the pre-amp settings to actually affect the settings of the valve stage, automatically allowing the user to hear and feel the difference between each sound.

The JMD 501s front panel is familiar territory to Marshall users and is both extensive in features and easy to navigate through thanks to the intuitive lay-out and clarity. Selecting the pre-amp sound you want is as simple as choosing one of the 16 sounds from the rotary pre-amp control, this section has been divided into 4 separate groupings for ease of use - Clean, Crunch, OD, and Lead. From there, all you have to do is set up your EQ section and choose and adjust which of the effects you desire. Storing this sound is just a case of holding down one of the 4 channel buttons on the amp or saving to the foot controller, storing everything from the EQ to the parameter of chosen effect.

Should you include the option of the foot controller this will enable the user to store 4 sounds (labelled 1-4) across 7 banks (labelled A-G), giving the option of storing 28 sounds and the ability to access any of them at any given time. When sounds are stored in the foot controller or the amplifier it recalls everything apart from the master volume and the Presence. MIDI switching capabilities also allow the user to control the amplifier remotely, and add the possibilities of up to 128 configurations. A single 12 inch full range 50 watt Celestion speaker sits within the cabinet providing dynamic, focussed sound projection ...

On-board effects loops allow the player to add in any personalised effects they require, and the balanced line out contains the most popular Marshall cabinet simulations providing a multitude of tonal options for direct recording. On stage in a live situation, the JMD:1 utilises Marshalls tried and tested EL34 based power stages using 2 valves for 50W models and 4 valves in 100W versions. JMD:1 amplifiers also have a silent recording mode in standby allowing access to the pre-amp sounds and effects without using the power amp, - perfect for use in a studio environment....

  • What are the downsides to this amp tho ? Great amp

  • 6 50 amazing sound!!!1

  • This amp is too good to be true. I own 2 JMD100 heads and I still can't believe how many awesome natural and rich sounds I can get of it. After trying lots of all valve amps, I never thought that the one I would love more, would have a digital preamp. Softube got an A+ with their Natural Harmonic Tecnology.

  • @joja93x My previous comment was more snooty than it needed to be, and WTH, if you like the way this sounds then you have another option. I will make one last remark on this. The amp is over priced, and you could get the same results with one of the "virtual" amplifiers they make for PC's. This amp, like the sound of it or no, is a rather cheaply made Chinese toy. A gadget. Marshall has really Fallen low, and i hate to think whats coming When JM finally goes to amp heaven. god forbid

  • @solerso68 its sounds good

  • this amp is so sexy>3>

  • @MrDvirHamadbir Digital,Analog...It just needs to sound good, for 'most' people if they heard this without knowing what it was they would like it. People can be snobbish.

  • Good for the multi-man, not for experts...

  • @MrDvirHamadbir youve never heard, a really good sounding guitar amp, much less used one, have you... and dont tell me "I own 10 plexis and my house is full of Tweed Fenders" because i KNOW your a Line 6 wannabe. You want to plug into an amp (why i dont know) and have 10 switches and knobs that say things like "1968 overdrive" or "brittish inavsion clean" or some crap. Buy a decent guitar and a Champion 600 or VJ.. Learn how to play and what an electric guitar sounds like. see if you like it.

  • GOD that thing sounds bad.
