An advocate of the right to openly carry firearms, and a gun control protester argue at a picnic held in Back Cove Park in Portland on April 25 while a police officer stands by. The picnic, which drew protesters, was organized by University of Southern Maine Freshman Shane Belanger. The officer ended up escorting Dick Roberge, the gentleman in the American flag gear, back to the open-carry side of the event. Apparently the argument started when Roberge was confused about which part of the park was set up for the gun rally, and which part was for the anti-gun protesters.

  • Police open carry guns for a reason and that is to get to it as fast as they can and this is why I open carry as well. All I need is to need my gun and have a shirt get me killed. That was easy.If you want to hide your gun go ahead and do it I could care less but do not give me griff over the way I feel is better for me to carry.

  • Who cares

  • first off he is a Patriots fan so i already dont like the guy... lol but ppl are so dumb when it comes to their rights

  • @TheZoelzer2 what's the point

  • Gandhi must've understood that gun control only creates defenseless victims.

  • police officer - u guys were here on earth when jfk was assasinated. sweet.

  • @derpdeder AMEN! EVEN GANDHI OPPOSED GUN CONTROL!!

  • @pshaw61 agreed. i carry both open and concealed depending on where i am going/shopping. also carrying concealed can cause just as many issues with the public as open carry can. if someone is openly carrying i know that a criminal would not do so unless it was already drawn. carrying concealed concerns me more because i am afraid that someone will see it if my shirt slips up, thus calling the police and causing an issue. to me it doesnt matter as long as you are exercising your rights!!!

  • It's the anti gun people who are destroying this country and our rights...

  • @DEVILDOG91754 How about not putting limits on freedom? If you put limits on freedom it becomes LIBERTIES, which are GRANTED and can be TAKEN AWAY. There should be NO COMPROMISE when it comes to FREEDOM. You are either free, or you are a slave. You can't have it both ways. I prefer to be FREE and open carry or conceal it when I decide it's the right time to do so. No playing this "if X you can do Y" bullshit. If human, have right to defend one's self at all times. PERIOD.

  • Hoschi09, it appears that you are unaware that there are several states including Arizona, Nevada, Florida and Tennessee that are Class III states where private ownership of machine guns IS legal!
