Video shot during the last day of the State Fair of Texas 10/18/2009. I hope to make some kind of DVD out of this footage but we'll see. This is the best I have, my second camera has some issues and its sound is bad. But not surprising when you consider the calliope plays at 121 db at about 10 ft. The calliope was donated to the Museum of the American Railroad a number of years ago and dates from 1905 by the T. J. Nichol and Son company with pipes and keyboard from the William Kirkup foundry. It was a lot of work just to get the calliope into stinky playing condition with its 100 year old leaky valves, etc. The calliope came off the pushboat for the "Golden Rod" and was bought from Captain Menke by Mr. Clark for $300 in the 1930s.
