Dorothy Provine died April 25, 2010

Here's more of Dorothy Provine as Pinky Pinkham in the TV series 'The Roaring 20's'
Songs are: 'The Black Bottom' and 'Don't bring Lulu'
Sorry about the varying quality of the picture and sound but the segments are from different videos.

  • A wonderful share, you are a swell poster. This is what YouTube should be about, archiving the little dent that Mankind has made on this planet. The Great Maker Smiles Upon You.

  • Many thanks indeed for your kind comment....I have several more of Dorothy Provine's "Roaring 20s" items that I hope to upload soon to remind us of those halcyon days gone by!

  • Good job! Thanks. Is "Someone To Love" posted somewhere? This was one of the best songs she ever sang on the show.

  • I've never seen the series and my admitted ONLY exposure to it is here. To be honest, she comes across as less of a "vamp" and more of a spunky girl-next-door type. At least, from what I've seen.

  • @JudgeJulieLit

    Something something

    And bathtub gin

    If Joe sent you

    You walk right in

    To a speakeasy, speakeasy...(etc.)

  • @hebneh (cont.) I believe these lyrics are the complete theme song ... yet somehow I have the image of "bathtub gin" that I can't here contextualize.

  • @hebneh As I recall the theme song (extended): "How'd ya do / I'm takin' you to / The Roaring Twenties / For a true bird's eye view of / The Roaring Twenties / Come with me to the mel-o-dy / Of the Charleston and jazz! / Yesiree, I'll have you dancin' with / Flappers and fingersnappers. / Come a-long, to the song of the / Roaring Twenties, / That wild and reckless, never bor-ing / Soar-ing, Roar-ing (speak-easy, speak-easy) / Soar-ing, Roar-ing Twenties (Twen-ties)!"

  • I have met both Rex Reason and Donald May.

R.I.P, Miss Provine and Mr. Vinson.

  • @pebrogan My memory of the closing credits theme song ends with: "...to a speakeasy, speakeasy / Super-duper / Razzle-dazzle / Hoochie-coochie / Something something / Roaring - roaring - Twenties!"

  • I watched this as a kid and we even had the album from the TV series!

  • The best thing about this show was the musical numbers Dorothy Provine sang that flowed into the show without making it into a musical program. I do recall one ad for the show where she sang the entire theme on stage with film from the credits and other 1920's era newsreels playing behind her. Hopefully, that segment still exists somewhere in the Warner Brothers' film vault.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I enjoyed watching them as a kid growing up in Brooklyn. For years, I've led a 1920s style-big band called The Sizzling Syncopators. We've been using The Roaring 20s theme song to open our show for 25 years -- check out the video to hear the entire song -- it's posted on YouTube.
