Koyru-dai-yon at one of our general classes at the London Aikido Dojo, Bacons College Sports Centre, Timber Pond Road, London SE16 6AG. www.londonaikido.com
Dont know about uke but tori is Tony Evangelou and last i knew he was a 3rd dan (no that its important)though i have no idea of his grade at present or the time of filming.
The two aikidoka in this clip actually do some of the techniques ok but I personally feel that uke is too 'generous'. You don't have to resist at all to see if tori can do the technique well - as uke, if you are in good posture with a firm grasp and tori doesn't disturb your balance (and I emphasise tori disturbing balance, not uke just falling over as he tends to do here) then you're really not doing the kata justice. All comments welcome on my comments!
The dai yon is a kata where 'attacks' are initiated by wrist grasps rather than 'proper' attacks in the normal sense. Why you might ask? The aim is for the 'defender' to show he can properly disturb balance, keep the 'agressor' off balance (this is the really hard bit) and then throw him (comparitively easy bit). This is very difficult to do effectively without the 'agressor' just giving the technique to the 'defender' and rolling all over the place. Make any sense?
Why does the 'attacker' keep grabbing the other fellas wrists? Perhaps I have it wrong and the bigger guy is the aggressor while the one who keeps rolling around on the floor is just trying to shake his hand?
so miss doing classes with this man (tony). many thanks to tony for the videos.
