The term "Jaws of Life" refers to several types of piston-rod hydraulic tools known as cutters, spreaders and rams, which are used to pry open vehicles involved in accidents when a victim may be trapped.
During emergencies, when a few wasted seconds can cost lives, the Jaws of Life are brought in to remove victims from the crashed vehicle. This video is a demonstration of these tools in action and how each one of them is used to free a victim that may be trapped inside a wrecked vehicle. Firefighters from Los Angeles Fire Department Fire Station 105 in Woodland Hills, CA perform a simulated rescue.
