I've learned a lot from youtube's guitar players, but always wondered.. what if I orient the camera to mimic what I am looking at when I practice? I'd like to think there is less of mental bridge by watching someone play through their own eyes. So here's the experiment, a small clip of a tallest man song.

You should be able to see the left hand chord shapes quite clearly, the plucking pattern is (for the most part):
(by number of string, 6 being low E)
6 - 4 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4 - 3
thumb for 6 and 4, index for 3, middle for 2

the fancier part changes up the plucking a bit, but still sticks to the main structure of alternating between the 6th and 4th strings (never sacrifice this alternating bass line!)

Maybe i'll re-record the whole song, play it more correctly with more explanation of each part, and less moaning a.k.a. singing

  • Thanks for the comments. I've been wildly busy, but have managed to get some practicing and listening in (this song needs it!) to get down the correct way. I'll put together an instructive video in the coming week(s).

  • This is a great perspective. I've been trying for a while and even though you say it needs work I can see what you're doing perfectly filling in what I was missing. Thanks.

  • good idea with the first person camera, you helped a load, I'd give my left nut for that second video

  • lol, your singing is fine. The plucking pattern you've got there helps a lot, thanks. But could you add in the pattern for the 'fancier part' please.

  • this is great but i read you want to make a better one, please do im a noob at fingerpicking and it would be awesome if i learned how with a tallest man on earth song thanks
