Access to devices and info does not necessarily produce active learning. Digital natives are not necessarily active learners. (I see many DNs who spend the majority of their time consuming media vs. creating anything new.) Active learning has more to do with being curious than having gadgets. Shopping for shoes does not equal information literacy. Too many uncritical statements in this video.

The problem with the premise of this video is that is describes me - and I am most definitely not a digital native -> more like a digital illegal alien....

I'm a ninth grade high-school student, 1st hand experiencing the transition from tangible textbooks to online textbooks. I hate it! All my friends hate it! We like the internet sure, we love our iPads and laptops, but for videos and recreational crap that has nothing to do with school. Schools are trying to get us more interested by using our medium of communication, but all it's doing is giving us more distractions and hurting our eyes trying to read off a screen. Take it from the students!

I think of you're trying to convince students in this day in age they need to read books and that the teacher is the source of all knowledge you're in for a shock. Students I know are more than willing to co-pilot the plane but they do not want to be lead around (nor should they be). teaching should be collaborative - period. set technology tools up with expectations and you will find great success. kudos to this video.

No matter who we are it is up to the individual to choose how, what and when we engage with technology.
