I disagree that knowing content is irrelevant to achieving a designer's purpose. Good training sheds light on solving a problem within a given discipline. A problem solution requires content knowledge manipulated in novel ways in order to progress in that knowledge domain. That connection process- where all learning takes place in a context of known and unknown knowledge-allows designers to appreciate the criticality of the knowledge and the process needed to construct the knowledge.
Love this. I can see what he's saying. I've lost out on training jobs because I didn't know the content. But when given the chance I did fine with content provided by another instructor. Meaning I hadn't taught it but downloaded it and my training skills did the rest.
