How can kids these days complain they are bored? I mean just look at that.

@jarblewarble Oh, i understand what you mean. i totally agree, it would be awesome in that level of detail, but computers are not powerful enough yet : / Maybe in 15 years...
Im also thinking of making a game using CA, but i need to learn a lot about them before. Ive already made a Langton's ant, but i want more xD Could you recomend me some source of information about cellular automata? a book or something...
-
@jarblewarble In other words, this could be realized by making a map generator that takes a normal Minecraft map, makes all the blocks larger, and then uses the blocks to represent biomes. Kind of like a Lilliputian world, I guess. And if that process were iterated over and over, you'd end up with a fractal made of cellular automata.
-
@jarblewarble So then each "block" would become a "map chunk" when it was zoomed in, and new details would be generated procedurally at a finer scale. If every type of block corresponded to a biome, then cellular automata could move on a large grid (the "map chunk" grid) superimposed on a smaller grid (the "normal" Minecraft grid).

@alelp You're right about that, but the level of detail in Minecraft isn't infinite like the Mandelbrot Set. I am now trying to create a cellular automata game with infinite detail, like what I described in the post below.
-
@jarblewarble Well, in fact, it does! The caves are generated by cellular automata, as well as the biomes. If you use the program MCedit (a software for editing or viewing minecraft map) and you go underground, you will see all the caves in a few miles and thats really amazing. Notch itself said he used cellular automata there.
-
@jarblewarble Minecraft would be really, REALLY epic if it could somehow contain fractals and cellular automata. Zoom into a pixelated tree, see the fine details, zoom out, see the structure of the universe, etc.

@SEbbaTheHacker And that's why cellular automata are the future of gaming.

How about 3D Game of Life?

looks like some game hmmm *cough minecraft *cough
Softology, you are an inspiration! Go, go, go!

Thanks. The 3D CA still needs work. Stay tuned for better results.
