  • ECT causes permanent brain damage and memory loss. Even psychiatrists agree, but they do not give the proper figures. I agree that ECT is not the first choice, but there is no way to measure any chemical imbalance in the brain, thus, using shock therapy to cure depression is a risky proposition. This is not vague nor sensationalism... it is admitted by doctors that these treatments are damaging. They just put up the wrong numbers.

  • It may lack explanation or theory behind it, but it is known to give a temporary affect of dispelling depression to varies extents on some people. People can get several "shocks" a week/month to sustain the benefit. Even if we don't know how the hell it works, if it helps people that would slit their throat otherwise anyway, what is the harm? The kind of side-effects here are mainly short term memory loss. For the situations this is used in, it's not that bad.

  • @fuzzbox5150 that just stupid

  • If this was done to an animal there'd be worldwide outcry

  • Most of you are so easy to accept a diagnosis. Then you get pilled. They can put ANYTHING in those pills. One day it will be used to kill some of you, enslave the rest. ECT Should be banned. But remember that whereas good laws are always necessary, the laws arent necessarily followed. The ECT machines should be DESTROYED. But that doesnt mean they wll will be even if the law says so, and freakish doctors and nurses, attendents can still make a machine or shock you some other way. you're prisoner

  • You dont know if youre put to sleep, zapped drugged whatever. Depends on the people you FOOLS put in charge og your life. Youre being lied to. If youre lucky enough to be given a choice, which is often not the case, and they lie to you later, and the outside world about whether or not you've had a choice. They can FUCK you when youre drugged or even not drugged. Then they can shock the memory out of you. BAN ECT OR ONE DAY THEY'LL DO IT TO YOU!

  • I had a distant relative who underwent this "treatment" back in the 1950s, and the docs believe that it is what KILLED her. A few days after one of the "treatments," she had a fatal heart attack. She also stated that it was the most horrible thing she ever went through. I guess it's not as barbaric as it was back then, as they put the patients to sleep now before the procedure, but it still seems very drastic. I get depressed and anxious, but I would never agree to have this done.

  • Great to hear, mate. :)

  • I just completed a series of 28 ECT treatments.

It's been 2 months now, and my depression/suicide has gotten so much better.

I have not felt this well since 1969.

My memory is perfect, I have no memory loss.

Only problem is I can not get some words to come out. Causes me to stutter.

Would I do it again? In a minute, without a concern.

ECT is a great procedure and can have great results.

  • Anybody who promotes electro-shock is insane! Anybody who thinks that they need or want it is insane, and should not be given it for that very reason! QED!
