@welderseries, yes we have to do a stop start half way (to show we can continue a bead that is incomplete) but we also have to do one that is 200mm long with out a stop start, you cant fool my tutors, and if you try they make you look like an ass.

@80MOOSE08 I guess if you can't fool them, you'll just have to practice! :)

@welderseries, thanks for the quick reply, I live in the uk and am at college, I am on a task that requires me to weld 200mm on 3mm thick steel - lap, t joint and outside corner, in the uk we don't use the foot peddle like in the US, so I cant control the amps very much, and if I dwell and try to reposition I'll melt a chunk of and fail for undercut (or burning into the plate to much), any other tips?
Thanks

@80MOOSE08 Are you allowed to stop and start again?

Just one question, how do you move your arm while doing very long welds, when I move my wrist the weld is smooth but your wrist only goes so far, but when I move my arm it White welding I can't move my arm smoothly, it's kind of a jagged movement, any tips?

@80MOOSE08 I rarely weld anything that I have to pick up my arm to move it, but if I do, I just rest the cup on the steel, hold the amps at basically an 'idle', and reposition. It's not the end of the world to just stop, reposition, then start again, as long as it's still hot. I usually back up one or two puddles to get back in my rhythm.
