Here's Pinza singing in Russian again. This is Boris' death scene from Mussorgsky's opera "Boris Godunov." Again, recorded for the 1953 picture "Tonight We Sing" with the 20th Century-Fox Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Alfred Newman.

  • You know he was a great athlete a 6 day bike racer early in his life, a great Basso and a great personality.

  • What a voice! Thanks so much for sharing.

  • For this scene... there is Pinza, and there are the rest of them.

He was sixty when he recorded this. The phrase "ya Tsar yescho" goes only to an E-natural, but compare the thin braying of so many basses on this note to the full-throated bellow of Pinza. Amazing.

  • He wanted to sing it in Russian, but only if everyone else learned it in Russian too. The Met couldn't afford to ask that of the chorus in 1939.

  • Bravo Ezio! TY.

  • So fine to have this in Russian, his only one, great voice always he was unique.
