The HANS device being discussed is being worn in this accident, while it should provide some neck support, it's main purpose is to keep the drivers head in line with his body. Prevents his head from turning to the side during an accident and/or propelling far enough forward to hit the steering wheel. These limits help protect the driver from a basal skull fracture which is what killed Dale Earnhardt Sr.

which year was this?? As mentioned before, he doesnt seem to be wearing a HANS device.

They may have had the safer barrier...But I think he needed a HANS device more in this instace :-S
